Not the best, but it's at least managable.

This book gets a lot of guff for being "bad" but it's honestly pretty standard textbook fair. Chances are, you're not learning directly from the book and you're just doing practice problems anyway. Even the explanations in the book aren't so terrible, though it's definitely geared toward practical applications of calc, trig, and analytical geometry. The word problems are hecka boring, but what word problems aren't?

If You Need To Learn Pre-Calculus, Buy This Book!

This is really an excellent textbook for Pre-Calculus. Very clear organization, with a logical sequence of topics, each building on the last. I really wish my son's high school used this text rather than the one they did. Besides just rote problems using the concepts, this text includes many practical examples across all sciences and engineering in each section and chapter.

Poorly written, misconceptions, overall not worth it

This textbook is not what I expected. I have had better books explain some of the concepts better and more clearly. I have never had an issue understanding math, but this book proves that math can be challenging if you have poor resources. I wouldn't recommend.

Better selection would have helped

When you are compiling an anthology your main concern is selection; and by selection I don't just mean the poems themselves but also the translations. There are a couple of translations of Attar with rhyming verse included here, and that is just insane. How can you include scenes from Shakespeare's plays in an anthology of mystical poetry and leave out Hafiz? Yeah that's right, he left out Hafiz one of the greatest mystical poets of them all. The publishing date in the book I have is 2002 and I can assure you there are better translations of the Rig Veda, Bhagavad Gita, Song of Songs, and the Upanishads than the ones included here; not to mention a few other questionable translations from "anonymous" people (the reason for this may be in getting permission to include certain translations, I don't know). One of the best things about the book is also one of the worst though and that is the latter selections, most of which come from the west. What is great about these latter selections is that I was introduced to several poets I had not heard of. What is bad is that some of them shouldn't have been included. The reason for this is that the book is advertised as an anthology of mystical poems and to me mysticism transcends whatever religion it is associated with. The poems in question are certainly religious in nature but I don't think they are mystical; and there is a difference. The collection is so-so but it is hardly must have material.

About the Author
Lisa A. Pruitt is the Lawrence Talbot Chair of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley and also serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. She recently served as the Associate Dean of Lifelong Learning and Outreach Education in the College of Engineering and has received numerous awards including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring (2004) and the Graduate Student Instructor Mentor Award from the University of California, Berkeley (2009).

Ayyana M. Chakravartula received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2005. She currently works at Exponent, Inc. in Menlo Park, CA, in its Mechanics and Materials practice. She has worked as a research scientist at the Cambridge Polymer Group in Boston, MA, and has served as an adjunct lecturer at Boston University. She has mentored numerous students, interns and research assistants in her graduate and postgraduate career.

The text covers all of the areas of implantable materials for biomedical applications. A focus on fundamental engineering principles guides the text. Students will find the treatment of contemporary issues to be refreshing.

Really well thought out book for Material Engineering

Book discusses materials for placement into the Human body and why some work well and others not. Does lay down the foundation for tensile strength and stress fractures etc. Easily understood but the calculus is not well described and each diagram is highlighted in a faint black ink which was a poor choice.

Know what you are doing, this is a reference NOT a good textbook.

This is not a book for anyone without a thorough background in mechanical engineering. And there are multiple formulas that are incorrect and the "examples" are only partial and incomplete. It will require supplementing with a standard material mechanics book.

I can't join the enthusiasts on this one.

I enjoyed [[ASIN:B008RH5H06 Summer Passions (Seasons of Love Book 1)], but this one dipped too far into fantasy-land for my taste.

THE TAMING OF MISS CAREW 3 stars
Her father lost the family home and she's included in the deed. The new owner/fiance, handsome Greek-god-type, makes a sudden appearance and things move along to the hea.

BRANDED 2.5 stars
This one had possibilities, but Brandon (the H) had such a lamebrained excuse for having left that I was utterly disappointed in him. The h was TSTL for accepting his feeble reason.

THIEF OF HEARTS 1 star (this deserves minuses)
This is so fairytale-ish they should be living in a bluebell sprinkling moonbeams and fairy dust.

Love these Regency collections!

After reading the first collection SUMMER PASSIONS, I have been waiting eagerly for the second one to come out. I love the fact that these are quick reads - 3 different short stories in a row, about 30 pages each - just long enough to read on a bus ride or a lunch break. And they are so much fun - there is humor, romance, and not one, but THREE happy endings! Highly recommended for fans of Julia Quinn and Tessa Dare.

I loved the short stories. Each story was perfect in length. I have volume 1 and hope for a 3rd. The only story that I had minor issue with was story 2.

Printing off

This is a great book, easy to understand- but the printing was off and there are random Pages in the middle of the book and scattered throighout that shouldnt be there. There are also some pages missing. It was probably just this printing because none of the books my classmates have are like that.
